My favorite thing about summer in the South is the long summer nights. Summer nights mean more. More time to gather with friends and family and stay up talking and enjoying amazing company because the sun’s still out and we forget what time it is. More time for long walks talking or just enjoying the world around you. More time for kids to run around outside catching fireflies (or lets be honest, we’re in the South so… maybe more time getting eaten by mosquitos). More relaxing, because when the night is long, you finally take the time to sit, and enjoy. And in my world, more of all of this is a good thing!
Summer nights also mean cooler weather and relief from the sun. So, this summer night, we spent the evening walking around downtown enjoying more sun, enjoying more sights, enjoying more great company, and enjoying the break from the sweltering heat.
One of our favorite things to do is explore the museums. It never fails that we always see something new we’ve never seen before (or something we love that we go back for!). And museums tend to host a lot of events (especially in the summer) so even if you go on a whim, there may be something fun and unexpected! I definitely recommend both the natural science museum here: http://naturalsciences.org which is located right next to the history museum https://www.ncmuseumofhistory.org My son LOVES them both! And It always reminds me how much I still need to be learning or have forgotten! 😉
I absolutely love the museum of art too! It has an outdoor nature trail and is always hosting fun exhibits and playing outdoor summer movies! http://ncartmuseum.org
On this long summer night, we opted for the science museum. I wore my favorite white top with the most amazing sleeve detail and pulled out all of the straw accessories, because what’s more synonymous with summer than straw details?!
Here’s to summer nights that are so simple, yet… filled with more!
